Make very crispy chicken wings in your air fryer coated with a strong garlic and Parmesan cheese flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is necessary for crispiness.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the dry wings with baking powder, salt, and pepper until lightly coated.
  3. Place the seasoned wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Work in batches if necessary.
  4. Air fry at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  5. Flip the wings and increase the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the wings are golden brown and very crispy.
  6. While the wings finish cooking, mix the melted butter, minced fresh garlic, dried parsley, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large bowl.
  7. Remove the crispy wings from the air fryer and immediately place them into the bowl with the garlic butter mixture. Toss to coat evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the coated wings and toss gently one last time to adhere the cheese.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Drying the wings thoroughly before seasoning is the most important step for achieving a crispy skin without deep frying.
  • Do not skip the baking powder; it helps raise the skin’s pH, leading to better browning and crisping.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry seasoning mix.
