Make a warm, comforting bowl of creamy oatmeal flavored with fresh apples and cinnamon on the stovetop in under ten minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 medium apple, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter or coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the oats, water or milk, diced apple, cinnamon, and salt in a small saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently until the oats are creamy and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in the butter or coconut oil, if using, and the maple syrup.
  6. Serve immediately in bowls.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, use water or non-dairy milk like almond or soy milk.
  • To make this gluten-free, use certified gluten-free rolled oats.
  • For extra flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract at the end.
  • If you prefer a thicker topping, cook the diced apples separately in a small pan with a little water and cinnamon until soft before stirring them into the finished oatmeal.
