A layered, no-bake dessert featuring spiced apples, creamy cheesecake filling, and caramel sauce, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1 package (8 ounces) shortbread cookies, broken into pieces
  • 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly tender but still hold their shape. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Make the cheesecake filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until just combined.
  3. Assemble the trifle: Select a clear glass trifle bowl for layering. Start with a layer of broken shortbread cookies at the bottom.
  4. Spoon half of the cheesecake filling over the cookies. Drizzle lightly with caramel sauce.
  5. Spread half of the cooled spiced apples over the cheesecake layer.
  6. Repeat the layers: Add the remaining cookies, the rest of the cheesecake filling, and the remaining apples.
  7. Top the trifle with a generous drizzle of the remaining caramel sauce and sprinkle with chopped pecans, if using.
  8. Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the layers to set.

Notes

  • You can substitute store-bought caramel sauce for homemade.
  • For a quicker assembly, use pre-made cinnamon graham crackers instead of shortbread cookies.
  • If you prefer a softer texture, soak the cookie layer briefly with a splash of apple juice or spiced rum before adding the filling.
