Make incredibly moist chocolate chip banana bread using a simple one-bowl method. This recipe uses overripe bananas for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 very ripe large bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until mostly smooth.
  3. Add the melted butter and brown sugar to the mashed bananas. Stir until combined.
  4. Mix in the beaten egg and vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top.
  9. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the moistest bread, use bananas that are heavily spotted or almost black.
  • If the top browns too quickly during baking, loosely tent the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
  • You can substitute melted coconut oil for the butter for a different flavor profile.
