Prepare this simple, make-ahead cheese ball featuring a sweet and savory mix of cream cheese, cheddar, dried cranberries, and crunchy pecans. It makes an attractive centerpiece for any holiday platter.

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup pecans, toasted and finely chopped, plus 1/2 cup for coating
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, chopped cranberries, 1/2 cup of the chopped pecans, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into a ball using your hands or plastic wrap.
  4. Place the cheese ball on a plate or piece of plastic wrap.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
  6. Before serving, spread the remaining 1/2 cup of chopped pecans on a shallow plate.
  7. Roll the chilled cheese ball in the pecans until completely coated.
  8. Serve immediately with crackers, apple slices, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • You can make this cheese ball up to two days ahead of time. Keep it tightly wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator.
  • Toast the pecans lightly in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes before chopping for better flavor.
  • For a slightly tangier flavor, substitute 2 ounces of the cheddar cheese with cream cheese.
