Make this quick, bold, and tangy horseradish cream sauce in five minutes. It is the perfect accompaniment for prime rib, roast beef, or steak.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish, drained
  • 1 tablespoon prepared white horseradish (for extra heat)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine the sour cream and mayonnaise in a medium bowl.
  2. Stir in the drained prepared horseradish and the extra white horseradish.
  3. Add the Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
  4. Mix all ingredients until the sauce is smooth and fully combined.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or horseradish to your preference for tanginess.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to blend.

Notes

  • Drain the prepared horseradish well; excess liquid will thin the sauce too much.
  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the sour cream with heavy cream.
  • If you prefer a milder sauce, use only the drained prepared horseradish and skip the extra tablespoon of white horseradish.
