Make a thick, rich, classic pizza sauce in minutes using only pantry staples. This recipe requires no cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Pour the crushed tomatoes into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the minced garlic, olive oil, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar to the bowl.
  3. Stir all ingredients together until they are fully combined.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or sugar if needed for your preference.
  5. Use the sauce immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, drain some liquid from the canned tomatoes before mixing, or let the finished sauce sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow it to thicken slightly.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, briefly pulse the mixture in a food processor or use an immersion blender.
  • This sauce tastes best when made with high-quality canned tomatoes.
