Prepare thick-cut cabbage steaks roasted in the oven with a simple garlic seasoning until tender with slightly crispy edges.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Remove any loose outer leaves from the cabbage. Cut the cabbage head vertically into four equal, thick steaks, keeping the core intact to hold the slices together.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Place the cabbage steaks on the prepared baking sheet. Brush both sides of each steak generously with the garlic oil mixture, ensuring the seasoning gets into the layers.
  5. Roast for 20 minutes.
  6. Flip the cabbage steaks carefully. If using Parmesan, sprinkle it over the top of each steak now.
  7. Return to the oven and roast for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are browned and the cabbage is tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, drizzle with balsamic glaze after roasting.
  • If your steaks are very thick (over 1 inch), you may need to add 5 minutes to the total cooking time.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor infusion.
