Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices bread, cubed
  • 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  2. Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle the cooked sausage and shredded cheese over the bread layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, sausage, and cheese layers. Gently press down to soak the bread.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • You can assemble this casserole the night before, cover it, and refrigerate. Add 5 to 10 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
  • Use pre-cooked bacon or ham instead of sausage for a variation.
  • For faster cooking, use thinner bread slices.
