Make these simple sausage pinwheels using crescent roll dough for a quick, crowd-pleasing party appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it up as it cooks, until it is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, softened cream cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a lightly floured surface. Do not separate the triangles; keep the dough in its rectangular sheet form.
  5. Spread the sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough sheet.
  6. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  7. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1/2-inch thick pinwheels.
  8. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can assemble these pinwheels ahead of time. Cover the unbaked rolls and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
  • For a different flavor, substitute the cheddar cheese with Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend.
  • If you prefer a crispier texture, you can brush the tops of the pinwheels lightly with an egg wash before baking.
