- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup cold milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- Ice cubes (optional)
- Combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries begin to break down, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly. Mash the strawberries gently with a fork while simmering.
- Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool completely, about 10 minutes.
- To serve, spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of the cooled strawberry syrup into the bottom of a glass.
- Pour in the cold milk and stir gently to create a marbled pink effect.
- Add ice cubes if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a smoother syrup, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve after cooling, pressing down on the solids to extract all the liquid.
- You can adjust the amount of syrup added to your milk based on your preferred sweetness and color.
- This syrup keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
