A simple recipe for a classic, creamy tuna pasta salad, ideal for quick lunches, meal prep, or summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces dry pasta (such as rotini or elbow macaroni)
  • 2 cans (5 ounces each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk or water (optional, for thinning)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta and rinse immediately with cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, pickle relish, Dijon mustard, dill weed, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Add the cooled, drained pasta to the tuna mixture. Gently fold the ingredients together until the pasta is fully incorporated with the dressing.
  4. If the salad seems too thick, add milk or water one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired creamy consistency.
  5. Taste the salad and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a brighter flavor, add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to the dressing mixture.
  • You can substitute Greek yogurt for half of the mayonnaise for a lighter version.
  • This salad keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, making it excellent for meal prepping.
