Ingredients
Scale
3 large frozen bananas, sliced
1/2 cup unsweetened plant milk (almond or soy recommended)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter
1 scoop vegan chocolate protein powder (optional, for thickness/protein)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, for extra thickness)
Instructions
Place the frozen banana slices, plant milk, cocoa powder, peanut butter, protein powder (if using), vanilla extract, and chia seeds (if using) into a high-powered blender or food processor.
Start blending on low speed, using the tamper tool constantly to push the ingredients down toward the blades.
Add only small amounts of extra liquid (one teaspoon at a time) if the mixture absolutely refuses to blend. The goal is minimal liquid for a thick texture.
Continue blending and tamping until the mixture is completely smooth and resembles soft-serve ice cream.
Spoon the thick mixture immediately into a bowl.
Add your desired toppings and serve right away.
Notes
For the thickest bowl, use the least amount of liquid possible. Stop the blender frequently to scrape down the sides.
If you do not have a high-powered blender, let the frozen bananas thaw for 5 minutes before blending.
Toppings suggestions include fresh banana slices, extra peanut butter drizzle, cacao nibs, or shredded coconut.
For a higher protein bowl, increase the amount of protein powder or add 1/4 cup of silken tofu.
